The Great Escape

Well I knew the day MIGHT come someday, I just didn’t realize it would be this soon. My son is 15 months old and managed to escape from his crib. This is not something I expected this early and it was a pretty scary moment for BOTH of us.

I put him to bed as normal in his crib and off I went to finish up my normal evening chore routine. Well he usually sleeps for 45 to 60 minutes and wakes up…….I have no idea why but he does. I normally go and just plug his binky back in and lay him back down and off to sleep again he goes.

Well night before last was different……

We have a video monitor in his room (camera points right at his crib and you can see him on the handheld unit screen) and hear him also. Well this only works when you are WATCHING the monitor!

I go in the shower and hand it off to my husband…….He sets it on the table and was doing a couple things nearby. Well all of a sudden we hear him crying over the monitor (I’m just getting out of the shower) and it’s not a normal wimper cry like when he loses the binky at night, it’s a cry cry. So hubby goes running up the steps (Our bedrooms are upstairs) and there he is standing in the middle of his room.

He stopped crying when I came upstairs and held him and kinda just looked around. Well I stripped his jammies off looking to see if he hurt himself and there was nothing…..not one red mark on him. I think he really scared himself more than anything.

I have no idea how he got out but thank god he didn’t get hurt. On the side of his crib there is a gap and then a dresser. Thank god he didn’t get out on the side and fall inbetween them and bang his head.

Well when all was said and done I rocked him back to sleep and he went back in the crib and my ears were now tuned wide open listening for any sound.

Next day Daddy headed to Baby Depot and purchased the Great Escape Preventor………a Crib Tent. Well this thing is a contraption in itself. Looks like a big dome on the crib but I guess it does the job. Now my only problem is every time I go to zip this stupid thing it wakes him up! My child likes to be held and is not crazy about sleeping in the crib (I know my fault but he’s my first what can I say) so any sound out of the ordinary wakes him.

I get him to sleep, lay him ever so gently in the crib and “Zipppppppppp Zipppppppp” CHILD IS UP….pick up, get him back to sleep, lay him ever so gently in the crib again “Zippppppp Zipppppppp” CHILD IS UP! Pick him up, cuddle in our cozy chair and both go to sleep peacefully. Four hours later……manage to get out of the cozy chair SLOWLY, lay him ever so gently in the crib again “Zippppp Zippppp Zipppp (making progess here and might actually be able to go back in my own bed)” Zippppp Zippppp (almost) Zippppp CHILD IS UP!
Pick him up, rock him, child is asleep, lay him in the crib (gently) Look at the Zipper……tip toe out and crawl in my bed for about 30 minutes before I have to get up and get ready for work!

Is this Crib Tent really the answer ?!?!?!?!

I had 4 babies climb out of their cribs, If only I had a crib tent lol one day you might not mind having it so much. Give yourself time to get used to the idea. Because it's better than him getting out and hurting himself, right :) (((HUGS)))

Oh no, what a night. I hope you slept some of those 4 hours you were holding him! Can you put him in and zip the tent a few minutes later, maybe once he's drifted off into a deeper sleep? I hope the tent will be the answer for you!

One sure sign of a baby growing up is he is able to get out of his crib. Relax it is a normal thing. Next he will be trying to get out the door.Lol Just kidding but the day will come. It takes some adjusting to but all will work out for you all. connie from Texas

My two never really did climb out of the crib much.
