Smarter than you think

Lately my son's most favorite thing in the whole world is "Italian Ice" or IICCCEEEEEE as he calls it. He walks around all day, ICEEEE ICEEEEE ICEEEEE which is also a new word that he just learned so that makes it even more fun to say.

I try not to mention "the word" especially in the early morning hours or right before supper or lunch for that matter because than he wants some. Anyways, the other day we went shopping down to Lowe's. This is now his new favorite store because they carry MOWERS ya know and there is nothing better than mowers altho weedwackers, snowblowers, pressure washers and vacuums come in a close 2nd (next to ice)

I usually let him pick out a mower and he get's to sit on it

And drive it

And blow the horn

It makes him happy and that's what matters

So after the trip to Lowe's we stopped at "Rita's" - I'm not sure if this place is all over in different states, but here where I live, Rita's specializes in Italian Ice, it's her thing.

What more could a toddler ask for........a trip to Lowe's and than ICE to top it all off!

So the next morning I am telling my mother-in-law what we did that night. I said we stopped at Rita's and got.........and I paused because I didn't want to say "the word" because after all, it was only 6:45 AM and, well, it was to early for "the word"

So I (trying to be clever) decide to spell it.... I - C - E

No sooner did I spell it and he chants ICEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Ok so he's 18 months and can spell, should I be worried? Well only around lunch or dinner I suppose, or at 6:45 AM

Hi Retha! Italian Ice or Iceeeee is frozen flavored ice. Almost like if you threw a bunch of ice in a blender and ground it to be slushy and added a flavoring to it (Strawberry, Watermelon, etcc)

THAT my friend is an Iceeeeee! :-)

My twins LOVE ice. And as soon as they hear me mention it, they come running with their eyes and mouths wide open...lol. I think most kids love it.

That is what we call 'slush', I think. Ethan has tried that a time or two, but does not like the 'crumbs that go away' feeling.

Maybe that is the way to help children spell from a early age. Spell everything they like. Maybe spell what they do not like and the taste might become a favorite.:o)
