How in god's name do I get my toddler to try new foods????? He is a VERY picky eater! I offer him new food's all of the time....He looks at them, shakes his head no and says....nah. So I say JUST TRY IT .....shakes his head no again while saying ....NAH.
So I thought, Ok, I'll sneak something new in (cause I'm sneaky like that) I cut everything up nice, in bite size pieces. He starts to eat what he recognizes (and likes) and suddenly spots the "new" food. He picks it up, looks at it and drops it off the side of his highchair tray. So I say JUST TRY IT.......Nah and proceeds to drop off the rest of the not so familiar food off the side of the tray.
If I pick it up and put it back he now tosses it with a little more force off the tray. If I pick it up yes again He starts crying if I put it back again.
So now your saying, well just put all new foods and he will have to eat atleast one of them. Well I've tried that and he looks and starts crying and pushing it all off his tray. So now I have a hungry, crying toddler that wants to EAT NOW
Maybe it's just a phase, which I'm hoping it is and he will eventually start trying/eating new foods.
Heck I was in my 30's before I actually started liking cauliflower!

That is a tough one - he is a little young to tell him if he doesn't eat it, he doesn't get any. I did that with our oldest and never had a problem - he didn't have supper that night and woke up very hungry! I also tell my kids that they have to take a 'no thank you' bite. One bite and if they don't like it they may say no thank you. He might be a little young to understand that too. I hope you find something that works. Did you check out babycenter.com? That is a good website with great tips!
Leigh - I think your right, he's still alittle to young yet. I have said, IF YOU DONT EAT THIS YOU ARE NOT GETTING ANYTHING ELSE. I get the blank stare....
LOL I just hope it's a phase altho tonight I gave him some popcorn shrimp and he LOVED them! I guess it just takes time and patience!
Everywhere I have read says it can take offering a new food 10 times before they my try it. So don't give up. Grace throws her food off of her tray too. Even the kind she likes. LOL
My youngest was a terrible eater and I worried constantly about it, because my other 3 had not been. The Dr. finally told me to quit worrying about it. A yound child will not starve and will get the nutrients they need. You should see him now!!!! Needs to lose weight :o)
